2013 Rising Star in Structural Engineering

Farmingdale, NJ - April 2013
Patrick Cronin, PE Partner of KSI Professional Engineers has been named a 2013 Rising Star in Structural Engineering. As one of only 15 professionals selected from a national pool of talent, Structural Engineer Magazine, has chosen Patrick Cronin as a 2013 Rising Star. Structural Engineers, 40 years or younger and working in the U.S. are eligible for this award. Recipients have been recognized for their exceptional technical ability, leadership, teaching or research, and /or public service.

Pat has been a leading force in helping homeowners and professionals navigate the confusing landscape Post-Sandy. Pat's love of the water and the Jersey Shore has contributed to his passion for rebuilding the shore.

Pat led the KSI team the day after Sandy made landfall, assessing the damage and spearheading new internal systems for our rapid response. Our team has followed Pat's compassionate lead, giving each homeowner our undivided attention and assisting in their understanding and rebuilding process. Anyone working with him over the last few months has been impressed by his knowledge and grasp of the situation at hand. Pat has also been a leader in education and awareness to his peers, teaching several meetings for the education of Architects and Builders.

Well-deserved Pat, keep up the good work!

Home Elevation Seminar for Homeowners

KSI realizes part of the rebuilding process is educating homeowners on the steps they need to take to start rebuilding. We have assessed over 500 Sandy damaged homes along the Jersey Shore for homeowners and businesses. With our experience and knowledge of rebuilding and home elevations the Borough of Toms River asked us to join a panel of experts on home elevating for their residents.

Patrick Cronin shared a power point presentation KSI had produced especially for homeowners, "The Basics of Elevating a Home". There was so much interest the Borough was forced to schedule 2 sessions. 1,100 residents registered for the meeting. Attendees came with questions and left with answers, resources and a better understanding of their options and what they need to do in order to move forward.

This new frontier is not exclusive to shore communities. Building professionals throughout the state are affected by climate change mitigation and adaptation. As Structural Engineers we have a critical role in rebuilding our state and communities. The KSI Engineering team is actively working on addressing the challenges we face with both homeowners and professionals. Our design engineering services offer tried and true construction and thoughtful innovation.

Please feel free to contact our office at (732) 938-2666 for any questions or information on assessing damage, elevating or rebuilding your home.

KSI Engineers Educating Professionals

Farmingdale, NJ - April 2013
KSI recognizes the challenges and frustrations our colleagues and homeowners have expressed about the new FEMA elevations, flood zones and elevating homes. In an effort to educate the public and our peers KSI has sponsored or participated in 5 presentations for audiences ranging from 50 to 650 guests in the past 4 months.

Our first Post-Sandy presentation was by invitation only to our clients in late December following the publication of the new ABFE maps. To share the gravity of the disaster KSI sought out experts in flood mitigation such as Don Watson, FAIA and Home Elevating Expert, Rod Scott, inviting them to share their experience and offer glimpses into the future of shore design. It was an eye opening, standing room only, event with our experts strongly

The Jersey Shore AIA Chapter asked us to present a seminar at their monthly meeting in February. Our roundtable discussion topic was, "Structural Foundation Design for Coastal Construction". We reached out to FEMA & were fortunate to have 4 experts contribute to our panel. Again the message to professionals was to heed the expert's warnings and be proactive in leading your profession toward rebuilding stronger, smarter & safer.
